Paris to London by car with a private chauffeur, via the Eurotunnel

Request a Paris–London quote ↗Everyone knows the Eurostar and the airlines. Almost nobody talks about the third way: driving. From your Paris address to your London hotel is about 460 km of motorway plus a 35-minute shuttle under the Channel — roughly 6h30 door to door, in the same seat the whole way. No check-in queues at the Gare du Nord, no baggage limits, no taxi hunt at St Pancras. For families with serious luggage, travellers with dogs, film crews with flight cases and anyone who values privacy over speed at any cost, it is quietly the most civilised way to cross.
Door to Door
Collected at your Paris address, dropped at your exact London destination — one vehicle, zero transfers.
Stay in the Car
On LeShuttle you remain in the vehicle for the 35-minute crossing. Stretch out, keep working, keep the dog on your lap.
London Charges Handled
Congestion Charge, ULEZ, left-hand traffic — your chauffeur deals with all of it. It is simply included in the quote.
This route is part of our long-distance and international service. For the distance we recommend the First Class saloon for up to three passengers, or the Business Van for a family, a crew or a group with equipment. Companies with regular cross-Channel travel can open an account via our business service.

How the crossing actually works
From Paris, the A1 and A26 motorways run north to the Eurotunnel terminal at Coquelles, just outside Calais — about three hours of smooth driving, with a comfort stop wherever you like. At the terminal, both sets of border formalities happen on the French side: you pass the French exit check and the UK entry check back to back, without leaving the car for more than a passport presentation. It is one of the rare borders where you clear immigration before you travel, which means that once you roll off the train in England, you simply drive away.
Boarding is the part first-timers remember. Your chauffeur drives directly onto LeShuttle, a train built for vehicles, and parks inside a bright, air-conditioned carriage. You stay in your seats — reading, dozing, finishing a call — while the train covers the 50 km under the Channel in about 35 minutes. Departures run frequently through the day, so we book a crossing that fits your schedule and keep a margin in case controls are slow.
At Folkestone, the doors open, your chauffeur starts the engine, and you are on the M20 towards London — about an hour and three quarters through the Kent countryside, traffic permitting. Total journey, door to door: around 6h30, often less on a quiet day, occasionally more at peak periods. We plan the departure time around your commitments, not the other way round.

Chauffeur-driven car, Eurostar, ferry or plane?
Four ways to cross the Channel, and we only sell the first. So here is the comparison as we would give it to a friend, with no prices for the others — they change with the season and the booking date.
| Option | Door to door | Pets | Luggage | Connections | What you do |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur-driven car via LeShuttle | ≈ 6h30, one seat the whole way | Yes, in the cabin with you | Unlimited — whatever the car holds | None | Sit back. From 1549 € all-inclusive |
| Eurostar | ≈ 2h20 in the train, plus check-in and the journeys to and from both stations | No, assistance dogs only | Limited, and you carry it | Two taxis (Gare du Nord, St Pancras) | Queue, check in, carry. Price variable |
| Ferry Calais–Dover, your own car | ≈ 1h30 crossing plus boarding, on top of the driving | Accepted, rules vary by operator | Unlimited | None | You drive yourself, on the left in England. Price variable |
| Plane | ≈ 1h15 in the air, plus two airports | In the hold or as cargo | Paid and weighed | Two airport transfers | Security, boarding, baggage belt. Price variable |
When the car is not the right choice. Be honest with yourself before booking. If you are travelling alone, with a cabin bag, from central Paris to central London, and you want to be there for lunch, take the Eurostar: two hours twenty in the train, and no chauffeur can beat that. The car earns its place when there are several of you, when the luggage would never fit in a train rack, when a dog or a cat is coming, when the addresses sit far from the stations — Disneyland, Heathrow, a house in Surrey — or when you simply do not want to be in a crowd. In those cases the six and a half hours are not lost time: they are a quiet cabin, with your things in the boot and nobody to wait for.
London to Paris by car: the return direction, and Disneyland
Most of our British clients search the other way round, and the journey works exactly the same. Your chauffeur collects you at your London address — a hotel, a house, Heathrow or Gatwick after a long-haul flight, St Pancras if you came down by train — and takes the M20 through Kent to the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone. The formalities mirror the outbound trip: the UK exit check, then the French entry check, both at Folkestone, both from your seat. Thirty-five minutes later you roll out at Calais, join the A26 then the A1, and about three hours after that you are in Paris — or wherever you actually need to be.
That last point matters. A chauffeur does not stop at a station. We drop you at your Paris hotel, at CDG or Orly for an onward flight, or straight at Disneyland Paris, 40 km east of the city and reachable from the A1 without crossing Paris at all. For a British family with two children, four suitcases, a pushchair and the dog, London to Disneyland by car is simply the sensible option: one vehicle, no Tube with luggage, no Eurostar-plus-RER, and the dog at the hotel with you rather than in a kennel at home. Our Paris to Disneyland guide covers the resort side.
Same price in both directions — 1549 € one way in Business Class, 2649 € return — and the same all-inclusive rule: crossing, tolls, fuel and London charges are in the quote, whichever way you travel.
Who chooses the road — and why
The Eurostar is quicker city centre to city centre; the plane sometimes cheaper. Yet a steady stream of our clients books the car, and always for the same handful of reasons.
Luggage without limits. A family relocating for a season, a bride with a dress that must travel flat, golf clubs, ski bags, art in crates — in a Business Van it all simply goes in the back, no excess fees, no fragile items out of your sight.
Pets. The Eurostar does not carry dogs or cats. LeShuttle does — and they travel in the car with you, not in a hold. For clients moving between homes in Paris and London with their animals, the chauffeur-driven crossing is often the only comfortable option. The documents to prepare are listed in our guide to travelling with a pet on LeShuttle.
Production and equipment. Film and photo crews travel with flight cases that airlines make expensive and trains make impossible. One van, one carnet of gear, one driver who waits on set — we work regularly with production teams and understand call sheets. Our business service handles invoicing and recurring bookings.
Privacy and calm. No terminals, no crowds, no seat neighbours. For clients who prefer not to fly — or simply prefer not to be seen — the car is a private space from door to door. And for those who like the idea of arriving in London rested rather than rushed, six unhurried hours with a quiet cabin, Wi-Fi hotspot and a coffee stop of your choosing can be more productive than a "fast" journey spent queuing.
Paperwork, left-hand traffic and London charges
Since Brexit, the crossing involves real border formalities, and we prepare them with you in advance. Every passenger should carry a passport valid for the whole trip — for most travellers, a national ID card would no longer be accepted for entry into the UK. Depending on your nationality, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or a visa may also be required. Requirements evolve, so please verify the current rules with the UK and French authorities before departure; we will remind you of the essentials when you book, and we build extra time into the schedule so a slow queue at Coquelles never becomes a missed meeting in London.
Once in England, the details are ours to worry about. Your chauffeur is experienced in left-hand traffic and drives the UK legs regularly — motorway, Kent lanes and central London alike. The capital's road charges — the Congestion Charge in the centre and the ULEZ emissions scheme, where applicable — are registered and paid by us and folded into your quote. You will never download an app at a red light or discover a penalty notice weeks later.
A word on timing: we suggest leaving Paris early morning for an afternoon arrival in London, or early afternoon for the evening. Friday evenings and UK school-holiday weekends are the busiest at the tunnel; if your dates are flexible, we will point you to the calmest slots. And if your plans change en route, a later shuttle can usually be arranged — one of the quiet luxuries of travelling with your own car and driver.
The chauffeur's view
We like the early departure — Paris still grey-blue, the thermos full, the A1 empty past Roissy. By the time the coffee is finished, the flatlands of the Pas-de-Calais open up and the terminal at Coquelles appears, all glass and gantries in the pale coastal light. Passports out twice, two friendly nods, and then that odd, wonderful moment: driving a Mercedes into a train. Inside the carriage there is a low hum and a slight pressure in the ears, and 35 minutes later the doors open onto English light — always a shade softer, somehow. The first roundabout on the left side wakes you up nicely. Then Kent does its thing: hop gardens, oast houses, the M20 rolling toward the city. Our favourite part is the drop-off — pulling up outside a Mayfair hotel with a boot full of luggage and a dog asleep on the back seat, door to door, exactly as promised.
Paris–London Chauffeur FAQ
How long does Paris to London take by car via the Eurotunnel?
The road journey is about 460 km plus a 35-minute LeShuttle crossing. Allowing for check-in and border controls at Coquelles, plan on roughly 6h30 to 7 hours door to door, depending on traffic in Paris, Kent and London.
Do I need a passport to travel from Paris to London by car?
Yes — since Brexit, every passenger should carry a passport valid for the whole trip; an ID card is no longer sufficient for most travellers. Depending on your nationality, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or visa may also be required. Please verify the current entry requirements with the UK and French authorities before travelling.
How much does a private chauffeur from Paris to London cost?
The journey is quoted as a fixed, all-inclusive price on request, based on your dates, vehicle and whether you need a one-way, a return or a chauffeur on standby in London. The quote covers the chauffeur, fuel, French motorway tolls, the Eurotunnel crossing and London road charges — no meter, no surprises.
How much does Paris to London by car through the tunnel cost?
From 1549 EUR one way in Business Class, all-inclusive: chauffeur, fuel, tolls, the LeShuttle crossing and London road charges. A return is 2649 EUR. The Business Van (up to 7 passengers) starts at 1949 EUR one way and the First Class saloon at 2139 EUR. The price is the same in both directions.
Can I travel with my dog or cat?
Yes — this is one of the main reasons clients choose the road: Eurostar does not carry pets, while LeShuttle does. Animals travel with you in the car, subject to the pet travel rules in force (typically microchip, rabies vaccination and, for dogs entering the UK, a tapeworm treatment). Check the current requirements with the authorities before departure.
Is the Eurotunnel crossing included in the price?
Yes. Your quote includes the LeShuttle crossing for the vehicle, chauffeur and passengers, in both directions if you book a return. We reserve the crossing, manage the timing and build in a sensible margin for border controls.
How much luggage can we bring?
As much as the vehicle holds — there are no airline weight limits. The First Class saloon suits two to three passengers with cases; the Business Van carries up to seven passengers with substantial luggage, flight cases or filming equipment.
Can you do the return trip or wait for us in London?
All three: a one-way transfer, a same-vehicle return on the date you choose, or a chauffeur kept on standby in London for meetings, events or a multi-day stay. Tell us your programme and we will quote accordingly.
Who handles the London Congestion Charge and ULEZ?
We do. Central-London road charges such as the Congestion Charge and the ULEZ, where applicable to the vehicle, are managed and paid by us and simply included in your quote — you never deal with them.
Can you take us from London to Paris?
Yes. Your chauffeur collects you at any London address, hotel or airport (Heathrow, Gatwick, St Pancras), crosses at Folkestone and drops you in Paris, at CDG or Orly, or directly at Disneyland Paris. From London, the journey is billed at €2.70 per km in Business Class plus a €300 LeShuttle supplement when booked well ahead — about €1,550 from central London to Paris; close to the date, the crossing supplement depends on LeShuttle availability at the requested time. Same all-inclusive terms as Paris to London.
Chauffeur-driven car or ferry: what is the difference?
The ferry from Calais to Dover takes about 1h30 plus boarding, and you drive yourself — including on the left once in England. With us, you sit in the back of a Mercedes, the LeShuttle crossing takes 35 minutes, and the chauffeur handles the driving, the border queue, the Congestion Charge and the parking. For pets, ferry rules vary by operator; on LeShuttle the animal stays in the car with you.
Do I need to book the Eurotunnel myself?
No. We book the LeShuttle crossing for the vehicle, chauffeur and passengers, and we submit the passport details Eurotunnel requires 24 hours before departure. You simply send us your passport information (and your pet's documents, if applicable) when confirming.
