Wait & Return
Your chauffeur stays on standby while you explore the château and gardens, then drives you home.
The Whole Estate
Extend the day to the Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet, or add a Paris highlights loop on the way back.
Why go to Versailles by private car
Let us be straightforward: the RER C is cheaper, and for a solo traveller on a budget it is the right call, about 40 minutes to Versailles Château Rive Gauche and then a 10-minute walk to the gates. What a private car changes is everything around the visit. You leave your hotel at the time your entry slot requires, not when the timetable allows, and you are set down at the palace gates rather than in the town. You avoid line C's engineering works, which often replace trains with buses on summer weekends, and the morning trains full of visitors all heading for the same security line. Above all, the car deals with the estate's real difficulty: its size. The walk from the château to Marie-Antoinette's Hamlet alone takes 30 to 40 minutes each way, and your chauffeur turns it into a short drive between entrances. A coach tour also removes the planning, but it runs on one schedule for fifty people. With your own car, you leave when you have seen enough, not when the coach does.
Your Versailles day trip, hour by hour
Our Versailles excursion lasts about five hours, hotel to hotel. Here is how a typical morning runs with a 9 am entry slot. If your ticket is for a different time, every step moves with it.
- 8:15 — Pickup in Paris. Your chauffeur meets you at your hotel or address, with your entry time already built into the plan.
- 8:15 to 9:00 — The drive out. About 20 km, 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Drop-off at the palace gates a few minutes ahead of your slot.
- 9:00 to 11:15 — The palace. The State Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed, seen before the late-morning crowd fills the rooms.
- 11:15 to 12:30 — The gardens. André Le Nôtre's terraces, groves and fountains. On selected spring and summer weekends, the Musical Fountain Shows and Musical Gardens set them in motion.
- 12:30 — Back to the car. Your chauffeur meets you at the point agreed by phone, so there is no hunting for a ride on the Place d'Armes after three hours on your feet.
- 12:30 to 13:15 — Home. Door to door to your hotel in time for lunch in Paris, or on to your next address.
Want the whole estate? Three to four hours covers the palace and the main gardens; the Grand and Petit Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet turn the morning into a full day. The excursion extends by the hour: instead of heading back at 12:30, your chauffeur drives you round to the Trianon entrance, so the far end of the estate starts fresh rather than footsore. Tell us when you book and we quote the extra time in advance. Prefer to build your own timing from scratch? Hourly hire starts at €79 per hour in a Sedan, €109 by Van and €150 in First Class, with a 2-hour minimum.
What you will see at Versailles
The former seat of the French monarchy, Versailles is vast: plan at least half a day. Start early to beat the crowds in the State Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed. Then step into the gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, where on selected spring and summer weekends the Musical Fountain Shows and Musical Gardens bring the fountains and groves to life. Further out, the Grand and Petit Trianon and Marie-Antoinette's rustic Queen's Hamlet reward those with more time, and they are far easier to reach with a car than on foot.
Most visitors make the same compromise: after the palace rooms and the gardens, they are too tired to face the long walk out to the Trianon, so they turn back and miss half the estate. The car is what removes that compromise. You visit the palace and the gardens at your pace, then your chauffeur takes you to the Trianon side, and you finish where you want rather than where your legs give out. Families appreciate travelling in one vehicle with room for strollers; photographers like arriving for the softer light of early morning or late afternoon.

Practical tips for your Versailles day
- Book your palace tickets first. Timed entry on the official Château de Versailles website: the security line moves by time slot, and turning up without a booking on busy days often means not getting in. Then send us your slot and we build the pickup around it.
- Take the earliest slot you can. From a Paris hotel, an early entry is only comfortable by car; the RER plus the walk from the station makes it a rush.
- Check the calendar. The palace is closed on Mondays, and weekday mornings are the quietest. The Musical Fountain Shows run on selected spring and summer weekends; a Passport ticket includes fountain show access. Confirm dates and hours on the official site.
- Wear shoes made for walking. Even with a car, the day means hours of standing and walking on cobbles and gravel.
- Be honest about time. Three to four hours for the palace and main gardens; a full day if you want the Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet too.
- Travel light. Coats and bags you will not need can stay in the car, and there is luggage space if you are arriving in Paris or leaving the same day.
- For photographers: the light is softer early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Tell us, and we time the day accordingly.
Is a private Versailles day trip worth it?
Yes, if you are a family, travelling with grandparents, a group of four to seven, or short on time and unwilling to give up the Trianon. For a group the arithmetic is simple: €599 for the Van, shared seven ways, is comparable with seven coach-tour seats, for a private car on your own schedule. It also makes sense when the day has other constraints: an early entry slot, a train or flight to catch that evening, luggage to carry, or someone in the party who walks with care.
Probably not, if you are travelling alone or as a couple on a tight budget. An early RER C is the sensible choice, and the savings pay for a Passport ticket. If your hotel is near Montparnasse or Saint-Lazare, the suburban train from your local station is quick too. And if what you want is commentary in every room, a licensed guide will serve you better than a chauffeur: book the guide with your ticket and let us handle only the transport.
With very young children, the question is the estate rather than the transport: the full palace, gardens and Trianon circuit is long for small legs. Keep to the palace and part of the gardens, let the car shorten the rest, and head back before the afternoon wears everyone out. The strollers travel in the boot.
Versailles and our vehicles

Versailles Day Trip FAQ
How long is the drive from Paris to Versailles?
The Palace of Versailles is about 20 km from central Paris, roughly 30 to 45 minutes by car depending on traffic.
How much does a Versailles day trip from Paris cost with a private chauffeur?
Our Versailles excursion, about 5 hours hotel to hotel, costs €479 in a Sedan (up to 3 passengers), €599 in a Van (up to 7) and €661 in First Class. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and includes fuel, tolls and waiting.
Can the chauffeur wait during my visit?
Yes. Your chauffeur stays available throughout your visit, can move the car between palace entrances, and drives you back whenever you are ready.
Are palace tickets included?
No. Entrance tickets are booked separately on the official Château de Versailles website, and we recommend a timed entry slot. Send us your slot and we plan the pickup around it.
Is the chauffeur also a guide?
No. Our chauffeurs drive, wait and handle the logistics, but they are not licensed guides and do not give commentary inside the palace. If you want a guide, book one with your ticket; your chauffeur waits either way.
What is the best time to visit Versailles?
Early morning on a weekday is quietest. The Musical Fountain Shows run on selected spring and summer weekends, and the palace is closed on Mondays.
How much time do you need at Versailles?
Allow 3 to 4 hours for the palace and main gardens, or a full day to add the Grand and Petit Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet.
Can the chauffeur drop us at the Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet?

Can you visit Versailles with children?
Yes. The gardens are ideal for families, and a private chauffeur means one comfortable vehicle with room for strollers and no walk from the station.
Can you combine Versailles with other sites?
Yes. We can build a longer day with the Trianon estate, Giverny or a Paris highlights loop on the way back. Combined days are quoted before departure.
