The SFO congress — venue, season and who we drive

  • Where: Palais des Congrès de Paris, 2 place de la Porte Maillot, 17th arrondissement — on the ring road, between the Étoile and Neuilly, twenty minutes from our base on the Champs-Élysées.
  • When: each spring, over several days, with plenary sessions in the main amphitheatre, courses and live surgery in the smaller halls, and an industry exhibition spread over the exhibition floors.
  • Who attends: ophthalmologists, orthoptists and surgeons from France and the French-speaking world, invited international faculty, and the medical, sales and marketing teams of pharmaceutical and device companies.

The SFO congress is one of the largest ophthalmology meetings in Europe. For a few days each spring it fills the Palais des Congrès with several thousand practitioners and a large exhibition, and the Porte Maillot district — hotels, taxi ranks, ring-road exits — runs at capacity. A dedicated chauffeur keeps surgeons, speakers and laboratory teams moving between the airport, the venue, their hotels and the evening programme without queuing for a car each time.

Speakers & faculty

On time for the plenary, the wet lab and your own talk — discreet chauffeurs for invited ophthalmology faculty.

Airport & station pickups

Flight- and train-tracked meet & greet for delegates arriving from across France and abroad.

Laboratory & device teams

Business Vans and coordinated fleets for exhibitor delegations, billed to one account with purchase-order references.

We connect the venue with CDG, Orly and the Paris stations, keep a car on hourly standby during the congress, and handle evening dinners via our event service. Pharmaceutical companies will find our year-round offer on the pharma and laboratories page, and all the medical congresses we cover on the hub.

Porte Maillot logistics — where the chauffeur drops you and why it matters

The Palais des Congrès stands directly on place de la Porte Maillot, with the ring road underneath and the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile tower attached to it. Its forecourt is the natural drop-off point: your chauffeur pulls in off the square, you walk straight into the main hall. During the congress the forecourt is shared with coaches and taxis, so at 8.30 am — when the plenary opens — the chauffeur may drop you on boulevard Gouvion-Saint-Cyr, a two-minute walk, rather than wait in line. He will tell you which the night before, based on how the square is running.

Most delegates stay within walking distance: the Hyatt Regency is in the same building, Le Méridien Étoile is across the boulevard, and the Paris Marriott Champs-Élysées or the hotels around the Étoile are ten minutes by car. For those, the chauffeur is mainly useful at both ends of the day — airport in, airport out — and for the evening. For delegations lodged further away (La Défense, the 8th, the 16th, Neuilly), a fixed shuttle at 8 am and 6.30 pm removes the daily question of how to get there.

From CDG, Orly or Le Bourget to the Palais des Congrès

Porte Maillot is on the western ring road, which makes it one of the easier congress venues to reach from the airports. From Charles de Gaulle, the chauffeur takes the A1 and the northern ring road: 45 minutes to an hour outside peak times, up to 1 h 30 on a weekday morning. From Orly, the A6 and the western ring road via Porte d'Orléans: 45 minutes to 1 h 15. From Le Bourget, where invited faculty sometimes land by private aircraft, 30 to 45 minutes. In every case the chauffeur tracks your flight, waits at arrivals with a name board and adjusts to delays without a surcharge for the first hour of waiting.

For a delegation arriving on the same flight, a Business Van takes up to seven people with luggage — simpler and usually cheaper than three separate cars. For a team spread over several flights, we sequence vehicles at the terminals and one dispatcher keeps your travel manager informed.

Hotel shuttles, satellite symposia and the evening programme

Laboratories bring their medical and sales teams to the SFO for the exhibition, but also for the satellite symposia they sponsor, often held in hotel meeting rooms around the Étoile or in the Palais itself outside plenary hours. A car booked by the hour follows the team from the stand to the symposium and back, with a chauffeur who knows the entrances of the Hyatt, the Méridien and the Marriott and waits at the right one. Evening dinners follow the same logic: pickup at the Palais at 7.30 pm, restaurant in the 8th, the 16th or on the Left Bank, waiting during the meal, return to the hotels — one chauffeur, one vehicle, one line on the invoice.

Invited speakers travel differently: a transfer in, a transfer out, and a car for the morning of their talk so that they are in the amphitheatre with time to spare. We assign experienced, English-speaking chauffeurs to faculty, and the medical events agency receives a confirmation with the chauffeur's name and mobile number the day before.

See the hourly service for standby between sessions and the Business Van for teams of up to seven.

For laboratories, device companies and medical events agencies

Most SFO bookings reach us through a laboratory's travel desk or the agency that runs its congress presence. We work the way they need: a corporate account opened in a day, a purchase-order reference on every invoice, one itemised statement per congress, per guest or per cost centre, and passenger names on each line so that expenses can be allocated correctly. Changes to the guest list up to the day before are handled by e-mail with a single confirmation back.

Confidentiality goes without saying: our chauffeurs do not discuss who they have driven, which company sponsored which symposium or who was at dinner with whom. They are used to healthcare professionals and industry staff sharing a car, and they know when to stay silent.

SFO congress chauffeur — your questions

How long does it take from CDG to Porte Maillot?

Count 45 minutes to an hour by the A1 and the northern ring road outside peak times, and up to 1 h 30 on a weekday morning. Your chauffeur tracks the flight, meets you at arrivals with a name board and drops you at your hotel or at the Palais des Congrès entrance on place de la Porte Maillot.

Can you carry several delegates in one car?

Yes. A Business Van seats up to seven with luggage, which suits a laboratory delegation or a group of surgeons arriving on the same flight. For larger teams we run several vehicles on the same schedule, coordinated by one dispatcher.

Can you run a daily shuttle between our hotel and the Palais des Congrès?

Yes. For delegations staying away from Porte Maillot — Champs-Élysées, Étoile, La Défense — we set up a fixed morning departure and an evening return for the length of the congress, with the same chauffeur and vehicle each day.

Do you handle the gala dinner or evening transport?

Yes. We collect your guests at the Palais or at their hotels, drive them to the restaurant or venue, wait during the dinner if you wish and bring everyone back. Evening bookings are made by the hour or as a package for the group.

Can you invoice the laboratory or the event agency directly?

Yes. We open an account for the laboratory or the medical events agency, with a purchase order reference if needed and one itemised invoice per congress, per guest or per cost centre, sent to your accounts department.

Will the chauffeur wait if my session overruns?

Yes. On hourly hire, waiting is included; on a transfer, a courtesy waiting time is built in and your chauffeur simply adjusts. Send him a message when you leave the auditorium and he will be at the door.

Do your chauffeurs speak English?

Yes. Chauffeurs assigned to the SFO congress speak English and are used to international faculty. Spanish, Italian, Arabic or Portuguese speakers are available on request.

How far ahead should I book for the SFO congress?

Two to three weeks ahead for a single transfer, four to six weeks for a delegation with daily shuttles or a gala. Congress hotels fill early and so do our vans; a last-minute request is still possible, just call us on +33 1 53 26 04 33.

SFO congress — good to know

  • Venue: Palais des Congrès de Paris, Porte Maillot (17th) — forecourt drop-off, underground car park, métro 1, RER C and RER E on the doorstep.
  • Nearby hotels: Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile (same building), Le Méridien Étoile (across the boulevard), Paris Marriott Champs-Élysées and the Étoile hotels within ten minutes.
  • Peak moments: the opening morning and the last afternoon, when everyone arrives or leaves at once; book airport transfers for those slots first.

Our tip: for a laboratory delegation, one Business Van on a daily hotel-to-venue shuttle plus a Business Class car on hourly standby for the medical director covers almost every need of the congress, on a single invoice.
